Luxury adventure

Journey into one of the last Shambhalas – a world you only thought existed in folklore and a place well off the beaten path – and be captivated by the charm and magic of this enigmatic Himalayan kingdom. Rest your head in the ultimate luxury mountain sanctuaries, ranging from the stunning collection of Amankora lodges to the stylish and serene Uma Paro retreat. Be seduced by the gourmet cuisine prepared by a world-class chef at our luxury tented camp. Most days of your Bhutan luxury adventure will include a moderate amount of trekking or cycling, and ample time for taking in spectacular landscapes and soaking up Bhutan's ancient culture.

Savour a Bhutanese Tsechu festival

Join with local Bhutanese families who come from far and wide in their finest traditional dress, find your spot in the courtyard of the dzong (or fortress) and, under the shade of a spectacular bodhi tree, soak up the atmosphere of Bhutan's undisturbed culture. With the smell of incense heavy and the haunting sounds of the Bhutanese horn lingering in the air, enjoy one of the most authentic and engaging experiences on offer as monks in colourful costumes and elaborate masks enthral their audience as they perform ancient dances and observe time-honoured traditions.

Discover Bhutan's ancient temples by bicycle

Bhutan's mix of ancient temples; fir, rhododendron, and pine forests; crimson-robed monks; whitewashed farmhouses built in the traditional Bhutanese style; and breathtaking vistas of snow-capped mountains make for an intoxicating whole. The four valleys of Bumthang, Bhutan's spiritual and cultural heartland, and the charming Paro Valley, home to willow trees, apple orchards, and green terraced rice fields, paint one of Bhutan's prettiest pictures and make the perfect base for our cycling discovery of each of these regions. Taking the scenic rural backroads and cycling down quiet mountain roads, we pass by villages, monasteries, temples, water prayer wheels, and alpine forests, soaking up Bhutan's ancient culture and its magical scenery. Finish the perfect day's cycling with an alfresco lunch in Amankora's stunning courtyard, and on another day picnic at an ancient nunnery.

Trekking, ancient monasteries, and a luxury camp

The Paro Valley is situated at 2,280 metres above sea level and is famous for its ancient temples and monasteries, the striking whitewashed Paro Dzong and well-preserved Bhutanese architecture, and is framed by soaring mountains and green terraced rice fields. With a cool mountain climate, trekking is the ideal way to experience the rhythm of life in Paro – follow trails through mixed forest and pass by prayer flags, water prayer wheels and ancient stone cairns to reach the 8th century Bumdra Monastery at 3,800 metres, and our luxury camp for the night, before descending the following day to the famous Tiger's Nest Monastery. The lavish comforts of a butler service, queen beds with luxury linen, traditional handmade Bhutanese rugs, and a spacious shower pavilion await you. Fine dining and a roaring bonfire round out the ultimate luxury trekking experience.
